Target 1 monster on the field; return that target to the hand

This is one simple, yet brilliant card that is being used quite a lot now. You can compare the usefulness of this card to the relationship between Heavy Storm and Giant Trunade; Trunade is harder to negate and when used well, it can be much more devastating when used right. I won't lie, when I first saw this card I thought it was sub-par, I had the belief that Dimensional Prison/Bottomless Trap Hole were much better choices and even though I still have priority for them in my decks; they are looking increasingly main-deck material to me. This of course, is due to the new priority ruling, where CED can hit the monsters before the effects can go off.

I feel there are 3 main reasons CED deserves its chance for the main deck against the widely accepted staple of Bottomless/Prison: Flexibility, Disruption and the state of the meta. Firstly, CED is such a flexible card with both offensive and defensive capabilities and it is rarely a dead card. Should the opponent activate a spell/trap that destroys your monster, you always have the option of using CED to bounce it back to your hand and use it next turn; while this isn't the best move possible, having that extra backup is priceless. Of course, it is obviously used to send your opponent's cards back to the hand/extra deck, it is also chain-able which brings me to my next point of disruption.

I find this card to be more disruptive compared to cards such as Bottomless/Prison mainly in the sense Bottomless can't hit set cards while Prison can't hit monsters which didn't attack; Compulsory can. You can use it pretty much whenever you want, they summoned a Stardust? Just send it back to their extra deck. They already have a monster on the field (face up or face down) and activated a card to destroy your set Compulsory? Just chain it and set that monster back. Another aspect that goes in CED's favor is the fact there are not many cards that can actually negate it; Stardust, Zenmaines e.g. all of the anti-destruction cards are worthless against this (except TRA for example) and should CED be used correctly, it actually has a bigger disruption effect rather than destroying them to the grave. This card is best used against Synchros/XYZ/high level monsters, while it can be used against lower levels of course I wouldn't recommend CED to be used like that in general situations as that is only a -1 for you.

Finally, in our meta where so many cards use the graveyard, it can actually be advantageous to send them back to the extra/hand rather than letting them go to the grave. I'm sure this is quite straight forward; cards like Monster Reborn cannot get back their Stardust if you sent it back to their extra deck. These are all just general examples but you guys know what I'm getting at.

So what are your opinions? Are you guys already using Compulsory or are you, like me, still sticking to Bottomless/Prison for now? Let the discussions begin!

So it is true that this card can work on Jinzo now?
I still use bottomless trap hole.

No the only cards that stops Jinzo are counter-trap cards which are speed 3. (Darkness ><)
Bottomless, Torrential, CED are speed 2 and by the time Jinzo's effect resolves... well it's resolved.

Love the explanation of this card, it's flexibility and capabilities are limitless to say the very least. It far outdoes all the basic trap staples[excluding mirror force, and yes, even solemn warning], imo, in the current meta, except dark world of course. This cards rarely ever ends up a -1, unless there's no monsters out, which is possible, but rare. Bottomless and Prison compared to this card is complete garbage, and this is me being aggressive with my opinions, but taking in account the uses that this card has, it is an underestimate of the card itself.

Just earlier today, i faced my old friend, Gam-Gam/Creus, who used a very effective strategy, and he BRD'd the field and i simply bounced back my gorz with a ton of life points left in hand. Then we engaged in a tag duel, where we bounced set cards and xyz monsters that completely disrupted the opponent's play and future endeavors, leaving so many openings where we simply decimated them. No offense to the opponents.

This card needs more recognition than it's getting, it needs to be labeled as a staple, but if it did, it think the meta would quickly change if people started using 2-3 in all decks, it would change the mind-set of opponents and increase cautiousness, enable changing strategies, and simply make people think before they play. Is it a solemn warning where my opponent loses 2000? Or is it compulsory where i lose most likely 3 monsters[synchro/xyz] or more in an instant and my opponent loses absolutely nothing? It would change the game as we know it.

This card shouldn't be considered as a staple, because yugioh would be so much more irritating than it is already, and honestly...rather not live in a world where this is staple, although it'll be slapped with the ban-list most likely if it was a universal staple. Especially in the current meta-field. So let pros use this, while kids use others.

Side-Note: Yes, solemn warning/judgement can stop jinzo, so that's the only true flaw it has, spell speed.

My 2 cents.

Oh, and if you can, if you read this creator of the COTW Series. Can you give me your opinion on Compulsory Escape Device usability in Madolche Series - Specifically Ticket? I asked this in chat, however i got barely any response. It's an unusually idea, i'm not testing it currently, but i would like your response.

I've seen people using Compulsory Escape Device in Madolche's and it's worked pretty successfully for them. I also consider Compulsory Evacuation Device as a staple in most of my decks, considering its amazing flexibility and how it can just turn games around so easily.

Ok thanks, I thought it could not work on jinzo,
I was on dueling network for a short time and someone tried to use it on jinzo...
It ended up in a small argument which forced me to quit that duel, which I did not want to do.
I was pretty certain I was right about the ruling's just needed to confirm it.

Great card all around, but question: why do you main bottomless in this format? inzektors, geargia, wind ups, etc. being the most common decks. yeah, side against chaos dragons and heroes, but it doesnt have much of a use other than that. just curious.

I like turtles and children's card games. I clearly win any argument you might present to me.

Well we won't see inzektors this format. I actually run both CED and Bottomless: I find bottomless useful with the growing number of Anti-Meta + the still strong Rabbit decks.
