while it has a monster equipped you cannot use the effect again until the equip is gone. think of it like when relinquished has an equip on it

i understand it can only have on equipped but does it gain the effect of the equipped monster, like if the equipped monster effect says stop traps does warhammer now be able to use the effect of that monster and stop effects, like relinquished ?

as you see the effect of war hammer don't say anything of gaining effect , so when equiped to a monster it only gain his attack not his effect, hope this answer your question .
