So in the new Ban List (percy isn't updated yet), but I wanted to talk about a card that has been banned for quite sometime: Snatch Steal.
When people said this card is being unbanned, quite a number were very excited. Not going to lie, at the start I was very excited by this card but as I was tuning my decks for the new format, it became less appealing to me the more I think about it. Almost to the extend I am considering dropping it from my main deck completely (though I will definitely have space for it in my side)
Now don't get me wrong, it is a card that can be splashed into most decks without any issues and can/will turn the tide of a game. I just don't think it should replace other staples or other disruption cards.
The main issue I have with the card is the state of the Meta. This card would've been amazing in the E-Drag format. Firstly, most decks are (and should be) running 3 MSTs. Given that this card is an equip spell it's most likely going to be destroyed before you can make good use of it.
Maybe the 1-1 isn't a bad trade but another issue is how most of the decks dominating are all very spam-based. In my opinion the top decks in the upcoming Meta will be Qliphort, Burning Abyss, Nekroz, Denko Dolls, and Satellaknights (with Masked Heroes there somewhere). The problem I have with this is that they don't work well together. Unless it is a mirror match, it is highly likely you'll end up using Snatch Steal on a card that frankly, has no value to you. For example, if I am playing Nekroz, what will taking a BA/SK/Shadoll do for me?
The second reason I dislike this card is because it is reactive and depends heavily on what your opponent does. I'm not sure if I like the idea of waiting until my turn to use Snatch Steal after they set up their field as opposed to using a card like BOM to disrupt their plays.
Again, I know there will be situations where it'll win you a game. So does Raigeki, but many decks are not using Raigeki/Dark Hole due to the access to floaters most decks have.
I have mentioned this but Snatch Steal is in no means a bad card. It is an amazing card in mirrors and frankly it doesn't have any downsides. I am just trying to bring the hype to a more reasonable level + show that even if it is an amazing card, you shouldn't be risking consistency for the sake of running it (I've seen people do it often).
So what are your opinions? Is it one of the automatic staples for you? Or is there something I've missed?
