The Walking Dead is a show based on the comics, where the sheriff's deputy wakes up from a coma only to end up in a nightmare. The majority of the world has been turned into walkers (zombies). This show premiered oct 31th in 2010 and so far it has been amazing. Season 3 will continue next month. Who follows this show?

I might do since I've been wanting to read the comics. I've been told that this is a soap opera with zombies. How much truth is there to that statement?

Depends, obviously there will be love and conflict (to the extreme) between the survivors which only adds more realism. It drags on for a bit too long in season 2 but that's because a whole lot of new people were introduced and bonds needed to be made. It's really never boring and the story is very good. Stuff keeps happening and it's always interesting, loads of gore and stuff, you name it. It's definitely one of the best tv shows.

I actually tried keeping up with this series.

I got to around the second season and i fell out of it. I liked the character's but the actual zombie apocolypse that they're thrown into isn't very accurate in my terms of zombies. I was hoping they would be more uh.. deadly. But its a very addictive show to say the least.

Well the zombies in this series are actually more realistic than the "zombies" from films like 28 days later and 28 weeks later. I'd rather call those "infected" by the way as they retain everything they have but their brain start focussing on killing. Zombies, on the other hand, take days to become one. Their flesh start to decay and muscle memory starts to fade aswell (that's why they're slow but unlike infected they never get tired) and they only have the need to eat. But the difference between zombies and infected is that zombies fancy traveling in packs and/because sound attracts them instantly. Their sense of smell is also 6x higher and, according to Romero's zombies, can be compared to a shark's sense of smell. They're dangerous especially in cities since you can get surrounded easily, whereas on a farm (season 2) you'd have bad luck if you got surrounded. Play Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3 if you want a feel for them. ^^
